Lightning in a Bottle

Dates – May 24-29, 2017

Location – Lake San Antonio Recreation Area, 2091 New Pleyto Road, Bradley, California

Admission – 4-Day Pass – $300

This art and music festival includes wellness and eco-friendly activities. Learning Kitchen staff will teach you how to prepare nutritious food. Watch artists at work, creating paintings and murals, selling at affordable prices. Proceeds support public art programs.

Frontierville includes a trading post, general store, hotel, and gypsy encampment, along with live music. You can participate in treasure hunts, puppet shows, astronomy, and gong meditation. At The Compass, you’ll learn about environmental campaigns, wildlife preservation, and new technologies. The Marketplace sells handcrafts and healthy food. Biodiesel generators will power the vending areas and stages.

Lightning Bus service will be available from Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco. Buses include storage space for camping gear. At Boutique Camp, you can rent a luxurious, fully-furnished tent, accommodating four guests. All festival attendees are asked to donate $2 to restore the grounds after the event.

Children’s Earth and Water Festival

Date – June 3, 2017

Location – Thomas Bull Memorial Park, 211 Route 416, Montgomery, New York

Admission – Free, including parking

At this event, kids will be thrilled by baby animals, games, bounce houses, face-painting, and learning activities. The first 500 kids to enter the festival receive a free Passport to Fun. This is their ticket to activities by which they earn stamps toward a prize.

Over 70 vendors will sell crafts and food, against a backdrop of live music. Arm-of-the-Sea Theater is presenting a musical puppet show, entitled “The Secret Life of Soil.” Green vendors, organizations, and businesses will explain their sustainable goods and services. You’ll gain ideas for eco-friendly home improvements. Bring a lawn blanket. Pets are welcome, too!

Bonnaroo

Dates – June 8-11, 2017

Location – The Farm, Manchester, Tennessee

Admission – Day Pass – $210.50; 4-Day Pass – $349.50.

At this festival, you’ll be entertained by bands, theatrical performances, and comedy acts, performing on a solar stage. Get your exercise with the 5k race or yoga. Available onsite will be healthy food, craft vendors, and camping.

At The Academy, you can take workshops in gardening, art, instrument building, percussion, songwriting, and more. The Learning Garden will teach you how to grow food.

Planet Roo will raise your sustainability awareness. Clean Vibes will inspire you to recycle. Additionally, $1 from every ticket purchase supports sustainability efforts.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival

Dates – June 15-18, 2017

Location – Town Park, 500 East Colorado Avenue, Telluride, Colorado

Admission – Day Pass – $82; 4-Day Pass – $235.

At this world-class music festival, you’ll hear top bluegrass talent and competitions in songwriting and band music. Workshops will be conducted, encouraging musical collaboration. You can also hike and horseback ride.

Bring your clan to the Family Tent, where most activities are free. Kids will delight in the clowns and puppets. In Jugglers’ Grove, you can take free lessons from an expert. Betty will teach you hoop dancing! You and the kids can decorate hoops with stickers, fabric, and tape.

Also slated are a Kids Parade, talent show, and musical performances. Treat the family to solar-baked goodies! Camping is available, with shuttles provided to the festival grounds. This event offsets carbon output by investing in renewable energy.

Clearwater Revival

Dates – June 17-18, 2017

Location – Croton Point Park, Croton-on-Hudson, New York

Admission – Day Pass – $85; Weekend Pass – $135.

This event features dance performances, music, storytelling, and family-oriented activities. Sing along with the Circle of Song, and browse the handcrafts and environmental exhibits. Take a thrilling boat ride! The farmers market will supply healthy food. You’ll leave the Green Living Expo with home improvement ideas.

Your attendance supports programs conducted by the Clearwater. This sailing vessel reflects the vision of environmental activist Pete Seeger. His goal was to raise awareness of Hudson River pollution and spark efforts to clean and preserve it. Since 1969, proceeds from the annual event fund environmental education, research, and efforts to protect the river and local community.

High Sierra

Dates – June 28-July 2, 2017

Location – Plumas County Fairgrounds, Quincy, California

Admission – 4-Day Passes: Adults – $275.75; Ages 13-16 – $150.75; Ages 5-12 – $60; Age 4 and under – Free.

At this event, you’ll be regaled by some of the most renowned musicians! Thrill to the sounds of new grass, jam band, funk, electronica, roots rock, jazz, and bluegrass. Get in the High Sierra spirit by joining the parade! Take a class in yoga, Pilates, poi spinning, or hoop dance. At Morning Sushi, you can earn free breakfast by singing during Open Mic. Support the Food Drive by donating non-perishable items.

Bring your crew to Family Village for puppet theater and clown acts. Kids can play music, sing, and hear stories. The Village Green will host group games, bubbles, and water balloons. Cool off in the public swimming pool! Within the Shady Grove Campground, Family Camp caters to kids. At the nightly slumber party, professional childcare will be available, giving parents a reprieve.

Upon admission, you’ll be given bags for trash and recycling. Consider volunteering to sort recycling items and clean the grounds. Maintenance crew will compost organic scraps.

Finger Lakes GrassRoots

Dates – July 20-23, 2017

Location – Trumansburg Fairgrounds, Trumansburg, New York

Admission – 4-Day Pass: Adults – $125; Ages 13-15 – $65; Children age 12 and under – Free.

This festival gathers 80+ musicians, bands, and dance troupes from around the globe. You’ll hear numerous genres, including bluegrass, hip-hop, rock and roll, country, jam band, rockabilly, and old-time tunes. For 25 years, GrassRoots has been raising awareness and funds to support environmental causes.

This year, you can participate in workshops, family activities, yoga, and the Happiness Parade. Practitioners of the healing arts will give demonstrations. If you’re a musician, consider entering the band or instrument contests for the chance to win a prize!

Craft and food vendors will be available, serving food on compostable tableware. Also on tap are beer and wine gardens. You’re welcome to camp on and adjacent to the fairgrounds.

Lollapalooza

Dates – August 3-6, 2017

Location – Grant Park, Chicago

Admission – Adult Day Passes – From $132. Free for kids under age 10.

This event brings together 170+ international bands. Browse the Art Market for eco-friendly accessories and jewelry. Green Street will sell fair trade goods, vintage housewares, and organic apparel. Running parallel to the main festival is Kidzapalooza, with arts and crafts, band camps, and family-friendly music.

Outside Lands

Dates – August 11-13, 2017

Location – Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, California

At this Bay Area celebration, you’ll have your fill of music, art, comedy, and food. Park refill stations will supply fresh, filtered water. At the farmers market, you can stock up on locally grown organic produce. Take an urban gardening workshop to learn home composting.

Over 60 popular bands will croon to you from solar-powered stages. You’ll also have privileged access to area restaurants, wineries, breweries, and bars.

Eco-Friendly Florida Fest

Dates – August 26-27, 2017

Location – Innisbrook Resort, Palm Harbor, Florida

At this event, you’ll learn how to live in tune with our environment. Information will be provided on solar energy, organic gardening, recycling, building with green materials, and using homeopathic remedies. Music, food, and green vendors will be available.
